Where does a Cincinnati family's private school funding start?
The voucher. This school year EdChoice sends a chartered school as much as $6,166 for a K-8 student or $8,408 for a high schooler. Most CPS buildings are designated, so many city families should claim the traditional version, which is never reduced by income.
What covers tuition after EdChoice in Cincinnati?
Usually the school's own aid or a parishioner or sibling rate comes next, followed by SGO money (for archdiocesan grade schoolers, often a Catholic Education Foundation grant) and finally parish help. Gifts under the federal credit starting in 2027 could fund one more layer for families below 300% of area median income.
How does a child with an IEP change the math?
Dramatically. A disability scholarship replaces EdChoice for that child and can reach $34,000 this year: Jon Peterson by ETR category, the Autism Scholarship for children identified with autism.
What about younger brothers and sisters?
EdChoice starts at kindergarten. Inside the CPS district, Cincinnati Preschool Promise helps with tuition at ages 3 and 4; anywhere in the four counties, the Ohio Preschool Program and the county child care subsidy are the options.
| Piece | Comes from | Typically covers |
|---|---|---|
| First | EdChoice or Expansion | Much or all of a parish grade school bill |
| Second | School grant or parishioner pricing | Some of what is left |
| Third | SGO award or parish help | A few hundred to a few thousand dollars |
What should our family do next?
Take the two-minute funding check. A tuition counselor reviews your answers and confirms which programs your child qualifies for and which dates apply.
