School-Based Tuition Assistance

The money a school controls itself: need-based grants, parishioner and sibling rates, work-study and monthly payment plans. At pricier schools it is usually what bridges the distance between tuition and the voucher.

What should Cincinnati parents ask a private school about financial aid?

Four questions cover it. Is the school enrolling EdChoice or Expansion students in your child's grade? What would you owe after the award? Which charges sit outside tuition? Does it offer need-based grants, parishioner pricing or a sibling break? Our directory already tells you whether the school is chartered, which answers whether question one is even possible.

Why does school aid matter more at Cincinnati's high schools?

The voucher has a fixed ceiling and tuition does not. A 9-12 award of $8,408 leaves a sizable balance at many of the region's Catholic and independent high schools, and that balance is where a school's own grants, an SGO award or a parish subsidy has to do the work.
